After months of wiggling, weeks of jiggling, two actual attempts to pull it out ... it was a simple tug that released E's first tooth. No blood, no tears just a barrage of questions about the tooth fairy.
Is she a boy or a girl?
What if she thinks my tooth is a rock and doesn't leave me any coins?
Can she see through all of the air and into my room and under my pillow?
How does she know to come tonight?
Does she have wings?
How does she get in my room?
Mind you, we have discussed this all before and have actually been reading a really sweet Tooth-fairy themed story book lately. But it was the topic du jour due to the events of the late afternoon.
After I answered them again, we went upstairs for stories and songs and tucked his little rock, I mean tooth, under his pillow. Just as I was about to leave, I remembered something! E's great-grammy Dora sent him a Tooth Fairy bear that has a pocket to hold a tooth. PERFECT. I found it safely nestled in his closet, took it out and together we put the tooth in its pocket.
"This is actually better, E. Your great grammy was so smart. This way, you don't have to worry about your tooth getting lost in the night."
"Right, Mommy. I need to make sure I get my quarter or dime or nickel or penny. What do you think it will be?"
"I don't know honey. We will just have to see when you get up in the morning."
It wasn't much longer that he pushed away all his covers, repositioned himself entirely and drifted off to sleep.
Sweet dreams little guy...
