Lunchtime Recess

Today our Communications team hosted a great employee appreciation lunch that was recess-themed. The weather was lovely, the food tasty and the decor perfectly old-school. We also had a lovely mix of songs blasting from the sound system, compiled by yours truly. The compilation process was a bit tricky. Who'd a thunk it would be so hard to find songs fit for a schoolyard, themed around teachers, friends, learning and appropriate in the politically-correct world of work? Actually, not so easy when all the google searches brought up songs like Smokin' in the Boy's Room and Hot for Teacher.

Well, I settled on a nice little list o' songs. Made my master disc and all was good. Upbeat, nothing reportable to Human Resources. Nothing reportable until my video colleague who, while listening to it at a louder volume in the video suite at work, identified an F-Bomb, loud and clear at the beginning of Track 17.

"You know there's an F-Bomb on teh Customer Service Week CD, right?" He commented sheepishly.

"WHAT? OMG. No, I did not know that. Which song?"

"Green Day's Time of Your Life. He says it right at the beginning when he messes up and has to start over. Did you hear that part?"

"It didn't sound like a mess up to me, just part of the beat." I replied.

"Yeah, he messes up and then says @#!* before playing the next chord. You will totally be able to hear it when we play it over the loud speakers for the luncheon."

"Good thing you caught it and there's still time to make a new master before the lunch." I said.

And, yet, there was a part of me that thinks it would have been hilarious to have it play. And, believe me. People woulda heard it and some woulda loved it. And some most definitely would have complained.

Here's the playlist, if you ever need any pristine songs about school.

School Days / Chuck Berry
Rock 'n' Roll High School / The Ramones
Be True to Your School / The Beach Boys
Grease / Frankie Valli
Swingin' School / Bobby Rydell
Playground / Ralph's World
ABC / Jackson 5
(What A) Wonderful World / Sam Cooke
Welcome Back (Theme from Welcome Back Kotter) / John Sebastian
Teacher, Teacher / .38 Special
Our House / Madness
Glory Days / Bruce Springsteen
Lean on Me / Club Nouveau
We Are Going to Be Friends / The White Stripes
No Such Thing / John Mayer
Oh Yeah / Yellow
Don't You (Forget About Me) / Simple Minds

And, if you want an F-Bomb, add in Good Riddance (Time of Your Life) by Green Day.
